Ristorante carosello is located in the northern suburb of Moonee ponds just across from the train station , you won’t struggle to find it , there’s also a nice art work on the front wall that will most likely catch your eye … they pride themselves of doing a traditional italian cooking with most of their items made in house from scratch 👍…
its a sister restaurant to Pacinos restaurant in flemington , wich by the way … makes the best dessert pizza!! anyway back to Carosello …
there’s also a nice terrace , wich is the perfect spot to enjoy some drinks and food after work and get rid of the day time stresses…
we went there on a sunday night the place was busing ! the customers seemed to be famillies gathering around nice italian food for a weekly catch up… the menu has all the traditional italian dishes , we started with some Arancini , Bruschetta and Meatballs …
we really enjoyed our starters, they were all tasty , the arancini with beef ragu sauce and gooey mozzarella inside and a side of white truffle aïoli were on point .
the POLPETTE were the highlight for me , the wagyu meetballs baked in a tomato sugo were so tender and juicy 👌
the bruschetta were nice but we just noticed that the bread could have been toasted a bit more .
MEATBALLS (polpette )
now for the mains…. being 4 of us we went for 2 pasta dishes and 2 pizzas … we were quite impressed with the pasta dishes being full of flavours and perfectly cooked !
the highlight for me was the “GNOCCHI pumpkin and spinach ” and i’ll put on my top Gnocchi list in melbourne the caramelised pumpkin and the goats curd brought so much flavours to the dish combined with the sweetness of the balsamique reduction was the perfect balanced 💯 can’t wait to go back for those !! its hard to tell in the pic LOL but was awesome …
GNOCCHI PUMPKIN AND SPINASH
very tasty pasta dish , the pasta were perfectly cooked and the beef was tender and nicely flavoured with the sauce !
we ordered the prosciutto pizza and the quattro fromagi , wich was on the special board , unfortunately those ones didn’t match our expectations , the base being of a traditionally italian type (thinner) got a bit soggy , and we couldn’t really pic the flavours on it with ingredient being a bit bland … still not a bad pizza but i guess we expected better .
for dessert we were served a selection of dessert … the sorbeto trio , the tiramisu , and the nutella calzone .
the sorbet were tasty and refreshing , perfect sweet treat to end a meal .
i always get a bit ecxited when i see Tiramisu on a menu … the portion was quite generous , and though the creaminess of the top layer was ok, it was a bit bland , the bottom genoise was tasting rather watery and really cold , with a strong liqueur flavour …
this calzone is definitely a dessert to share with enough for at least 3 people , the nutella filling was generous but the pizza base was quite thin and dry wich doesnt really makes the degustation enjoyable as nutella tends to be dry as well …
overall we did enjoyed our dinner and i definitely recommend the place for traditional italian food , great service and a busing environment , ( gnocchi should be top of your list 😉
thanks to the team, for taking great care of us 🙌
